Since www.mycovidresponse.org was designed and launched from the kitchen table of one of our co-founders in mid-March, over 1,200 volunteers have served the needs of over 2,000 households in Oakland County and beyond. Almost 10,000 aid requests have been completed, including over 7,000 food deliveries representing over 500,000 meals* completed by volunteers like you. On top of it all, over 75 organizations have linked their efforts to raise over $1,000,000 in grant funding and private donations to fund emergency relief efforts, leading to a lease of a more permanent location for our collaborative food delivery effort in the former Summit Place mall complex in Waterford. The successes of this collaborative effort continue to amaze and surprise all who learn about it, our leadership team included.
Our new address for our food distribution warehouse is 2230 Mall Dr E, Waterford Twp, MI 48328. Playtime Waterford and Extreme Fun Family Entertainment were previous tenants, so those names may appear when navigating to the new space for food deliveries. All email and text notifications will reflect the new address beginning Monday, July 13th.
As of July 11th, Oakland University will no longer be receiving or processing deliveries, as no members of our team will be on site there any longer. We are extremely grateful to Oakland University for providing such an incredible location to launch our efforts to meet the needs of our community.
We wanted to make sure every volunteer who has engaged with our effort knew our exciting news, learned about our latest accomplishments, and understood our efforts are still moving forward. We are asking all those who have signed up and served to take a 5-minute personalized survey to adjust their current volunteer status, update their availability, offer feedback, and share stories of what’s happened, especially in light of this new information.
Our team, based on the strength and availability of so many incredible volunteers, has worked tirelessly and often thanklessly for over four months to ensure every one of our community members has access to aid during these difficult times. We are so incredibly grateful for the volunteer support in every way, large or small. Thanks to all who have been available to meet the needs of fellow community members in the midst of scary and uncertain circumstances – our collaborative effort has helped us make unprecedented progress, and we believe there is much more to come!
